Some quick definitions:

A web page is any page that can be viewed on the Internet. This page is a web page, every page you see in your browser is a web page.

A web site is two or more web pages run by the same person or company that serve the same purpose. For example, the EMuseum is a website. It serves the purpose of educating people and is run by one organization, Minnesota State University, Mankato.

A home page is the first page you see when you visit a web site. This page generally has links to most other sites. The home page of the EMuseum can be seen here. The home page of this exhibit can be seen here. It is simply the first page you see when you enter the area.

A link is any connection to another web page. It is also referred to as a hyperlink. Links are usually denoted by a color change and being underlined. On this page, all links are red and underlined. When you move your mouse over a link, the cursor becomes a little hand. If you click on a link, you will go to a different web page.

Ok, now we can get into the fun stuff! The first thing you need is a server to host your web page. Many times when you sign up to get Internet access, the company will provide you with a free web page and email address. If you're not sure, contact the company to get the information. Most colleges with dial-up connections also provide this service to students. In either case, there is usually no extra charge to use the provided web page and email address. If you are not provided with a web page from your Internet Service Provider, or you choose not to use if for whatever reason, many internet companies provide free web pages for personal use. You do not need a page to write HTML code. However, you do need a web page to post it on the Internet. If you want to register for a free home page, choose one of the links below:

Geocities--Provides user with a free homepage in one of 41 themed "neighborhoods". Email is included free of charge.
