In 32 BC, Antony and Cleopatra retreated to Alexandria where they thought they’d be safe from the wrath of Octavians army. By word of miscommunication, Antony killed himself upon hearing of Cleopatra’s suicide. When Cleopatra heard of this tragedy, she also killed herself rather than be made a spectacle of in Rome by Octavian.
