Antony's Study

Mark Antony was born in Rome and was encouraged to become a great military leader. Over the years, Antony served as calvary leader in Palestine, Egypt, and Gaul. He also became commander in chief to Caesar in Italy when civil war broke out between Caesar and Pompey the Great. When Caesar was murdered by members of the Senate in 44 BC, Antony fought to gain control of military territory in favor of the second triumvirate. The second triumvirate consisted of Mark Antony, Octavian (also known as Augustus, Rome’s 1st emperor, and Caesar's grandnephew), and Lepidus. Each member controlled parts of the Roman Empire. Antony controlled the eastern provinces containing Macedonia, Asia, Bithynia, Cilicia, and Syria. Antony’s personal life was also a world of battles on its own.
