Caesar's Bedroom

Caesar met Cleopatra in 48 BCE (BC) when she was attempting to return to Egypt after being exiled. Her armies were about to fight her brother’s when Caesar intervened. Cleopatra wanted to meet with him, but was unable to do so because she was exiled. So, she snuck into Caesar’s palace by hiding in a bag delivered to him. She won Caesar’s heart. Politics and love are interfused in Cleopatra and Caesar’s relationship. They were compatible because both were thought to be divine and both were working hard to assert themselves as rulers. While in Egypt, Caesar helped Cleopatra gain the crown by helping her fight her brother and sister. Also, in 46 BCE (BC) he summoned her to Rome and she stayed for 2 years. Cleopatra had a son by Caesar who bore Caesar’s name. Caesar and Cleopatra lived as husband and wife, even though Caesar was already married. Caesar is said to have seduced many women, including the mother of Marcus Brutus, one of his murderers.
