Caesar's Office

Caesar began a civil war against Rome and Pompey because he felt that he deserved to have more power and a higher position in Rome. He felt he was owed these honors on the basis of personal achievements. This civil war wasn’t really a conflict between citizens but more Pompey fighting against Caesar for autocracy. Caesar won the civil war and became the leader of the Roman Empire. Previously, power was held by the senate. Caesar however, became a dictator. The idea was that in times of trouble , which Rome was in because of the civil war, Rome would have a dictator, who would step down after things got better. Caesar never did this and ruled the state like he had ruled his army. Caesar became a demigod.
