People thought Caesar planned to make himself king and move the capital to Alexandria. The people wanted a republic, and a conspiracy to kill Caesar formed as he continued to prove that he was not going to give the people the republic that they wanted. Trusted friends joined the conspiracy. Caesar was called to the Senate on March 15, 44 BCE (BC). On this day, the Ides of March, they attacked and murdered Caesar. His wife had had a dream in which he was murdered and begged him not to go. Also, a beggar had warned him "Beware the Ides of March." However, he went anyway because he was told that the senate was going to make him king of all the Roman Provinces.
