Cleopatra became Queen of Egypt in 51 BC when she was 18 years old. She was married to her younger brother Ptolemy XIII who was 10. The two ruled Egypt together as coregents. However, since Ptolemy was so young, he had three advisers who ruled the country. When Cleopatra was 22, she came into conflict with these advisors and was drive into exile. However, she wanted to return Egypt to the glory of its earlier years and was preparing to fight a battle and return to Egypt. This is when she met Caesar, who helped her overthrow her brother and then her sister Arsinoe who was also trying to throw her out of Egypt. Cleopatra was the only one of the Ptolemy rulers to learn the Egyptian language and brought back religious traditions. She ruled Egypt for 21 year, bringing the country to new heights, however, she also brought about its downfall. It became part of the Roman Empire after her death.
