Artaxeres was opposed by the princes Inaros of Heliopolis and Amyrtaeus of Sais. Despite initial successes with the aid of Greek allies, the Egyptians were defeated and Inaros was executed in 454 B.C.E. Relative tranquillity ensued and his reign left little mark on Egypt.
