Hatshepsut was the Queen of Egypt during the XVIIIth Dynasty. She was the daughter of Thutmose I. She married Thutmose II. When he ascended to the throne in 1512 B.C.E., she became the real ruler. When he died in 1503, she acted as regent for his son, Thutmose III, then had herself crowned as Pharaoh. Maintaining the fiction that she was a male, she was represented with the regular pharaonic attributes, including a beard.
