A general in Alexander the Great's army, Ptolemy I was King of Egypt from 323 to 283 B.C.E. and founded the Ptolemic Dynasty. Some of the things which he accomplished were making Alexandria the capital and cultural center of the kingdom as well as founding the Great Library of Alexandria.

Ptolemy I is also called Ptolemy I Soter in many books.
