Onsen

Onsen is a Japanese word which means hot spring. There are many active volcanos in Japan resulting in many hot springs around the volcanos. According to experts, there are 2 types of hot springs, one is a result of volcanic activity and the other is a result of geothermal heat.

Many people in Japan go regularly to soak in the hot spring baths since they are good for their health. The hot springs have medicinal benefits to remedy such ailments as backache, poor circulation, arthritis, high blood pressure, insomnia, asthma, and atrophy. People also come to the hot spring baths to cure their wounds.

Onsen are utilized not only for curing wounds or diseases but also for recreation. There are many hotels and inns which have their own hot springs and, along with good food, provide a welcome service for their customers. Therefore, Japanese people go on an Onsen tour with their friends, family, or simply by themselves.

There are both outdoor hot springs and indoor hot springs. The size of the baths are usually large. If a hot spring is in a mountain and there are wild animals, you may see wild monkeys soaking in the hot spring bath as well. Even wild animals know what is good for them.

Japanese people are interested in soaking in the Onsen because it is good for your health and you can relax in the bath. If you go to Onsen with your friends, you are going to have a fun time while chatting in a big Onsen bath.
