Picture from Kyoto National Museum

These vessels were discovered at Kashiwara City in Osaka, Japan. They were made during the Yayoi Period.

Late in the Jomon Period, people from Korea started to emigrate to Japan making contact with Jomon people. This circumstance united two cultures. This is the beginning of Yayoi culture. The shape and size of Japanese vessels were influenced by the ancient Korean culture. Decoration of earthenware during the Yayoi Period became simpler than Jomon earthenware. However, the number of forms increased as contrasted with Jomon earthenware. Yayoi pottery was used for storage and food preparation.
