Ipiutak
The Ipiutak lived by the Bering
Straight about 2200 years BP (Before Present), in
buried houses with floors and foundations. They had multiple
adaptative strageties with new approaches coming in from cultures in Siberia. The Ipiutak are known for exotic
carvings made out of ivory. Not only were their carvings known as exotic ones,
but also known for carvings used in superficial burials. The Ipiutak Indians
were also good hunters, besides being gifted in the arts and crafts. This
culture hunted both on the land and on the sea. On the land they hunted
caribou, the most important food in their culture. To hunt these animals they
used points set with ends of flint points or blades.
