Neville Culture
The Neville culture was located in New England and precedes the Stark culture which produced a more pointed stem form of a scraper. This culture is dated 8000-7000 BP and is recognized to have produced the earliest forms of polished stone. During the middle archaic period, the Neville culture used a diverse range of natural resources. For example, sites have been found located along river beds, leading to the conclusion that fish were caught during spawning seasons when collection was easiest. Such tools as choppers and full grooved axes were found near lake border sites along with several small end scrapers.
