The Orient were located primarily in the areas of present day Delaware, New Jersey and Long Island. C14 has dated them from approximately 1200-750 B.C. They are best known for their burial sites in which the body was cremated, placed in large pits, sprinkled with red ochre and buried with a vast amount of personal affects. They were also known for their thick pottery with roughened exteriors, made by the application of paddles wrapped in cord or fabric. The Orient subsisted on deer, turkey and marine shellfish.
