Oneota Culture

The Oneota Culture was located in the area of the Midwest between AD 1050 and 1700. Their culture can be categorized by their shell-tempered ceramic jars and the triangular arrowheads. Settlement patterns of the culture were large and permanent or semi-permanent. They constructed different types of structures. Some were designed for single family habitation, while others, such as longhouses, were designed for more than one family. Their subsistence strategies included hunting, and fishing, as well as gathering plants and agriculture. The Sheffield Site which is located in Minnesota is a good example of the Oneota Culture.
