San Dieguito

This Indian culture of San Dieguito is the earliest known culture in California. The culture was basically located in the present day city of San Diego. The name of the city resembles the ancient Indian Culture. This Indian culture moved into this region in about 13,000 - 10,000 years BP. The San Dieguito culture was the first to construct crude projectile points for hunting and fishing. These Indians also began an early tool making niche. The tools they constructed were early scraping and cutting stones, and crude hearths, were fire may have been ignited. Most of the tools produced by these San Dieguito Indians were placed in the hearths or along side bone deposits. This means they were planning to make more of the same tools, but planned to use different materials, probably ones from animal wastes.
