Wellner-Hagemann Petroglyph Site

The Wellner-Hagemann Site is located about three and a half miles from the Jeffers Petroglyphs Site in south central Minnesota. The petroglyphs were located as a result of an archaeological survey done for the Brown County Parks Department by Impact Services of Mankato, Minnesota in 1991. The site is located near a dam within the Wellner-Hageman Dam and Park just west of the Jeffers Petroglyph Site, Minnesota. Four clusters of petroglyphs were located within the Wellner-Hagemann Site.

The first cluster included a circle containing a figure adjacent to what appears to be an atlatl adjacent to two geometric figures. The second cluster includes a fish, a human figure with a bow(?) and a single human figure. The third cluster appears to be a thunderbird and the fourth cluster includes an atlatl and some "counts."

Some of these petroglyphs were difficult to see without some enhancement for the camera. Thus, after they were measured, they were filled with chalk in order create a photograph that can be easily seen. The last picture below was taken before the chalk process was done and the petroglyph is almost impossible to see.
