Admission:
If the student is wanting Undergraduate Credit
- If a student has taken courses from Minnesota State in the past, they do NOT need to reapply for admission
- Apply for admission to the University OR fill out the Extended Learning Permission to Register form (this will allow a student to take 16 credits of Undergraduate Credit without formal admission to Minnesota State Mankato, no transcript or application fee is required. A student wanting this option needs to be out of high school 3 or more years).
- After the 16 credits are completed, to continue at Minnesota State University, Mankato a student will need to complete the application for admission.
Orientation:
- Students wanting undergraduate credit (off campus or online) and applying for admission need to complete the Orientation for Extended Learners.
- students who filled out the Extended Learning permission to register form do not need to complete orientation.
Registration:
- If the student filled out the EL permission to register form, they must contact Extended Learning to register.
- Students admitted through the admission process or those who have attended Minnesota State Mankato in the past will register online through the first week of classes.
- If a student is taking a 100-200 level off campus course for the first time, they need to contact Extended Learning prior to registering.
- After the first week of courses, students should contact Extended Learning to register for online or off campus courses.

Your Minnesota State Mankato e-mail account will be used as the primary communication method by the University. Access to a University e-mail account can be found at http://mavmail.mnsu.edu/.
A students’ Mavmail will need to be activated and can be done at the above site.
Desire2Learn
D2L is the platform that Minnesota State University, Mankato uses for online courses. Many instructors use D2L to support their face-to-face courses as well. Access to courses using D2L can be obtained 25 days before the semester begins.
