| Career Outlook | Careers involving Urban Planning primarily revolve around local governments, as well as management, scientific, and technical consulting services. Employment for planners in the private sector has also been increasing. Urban Planning training can also lead to careers in the state government agencies dealing with housing, transportation, or environmental protection. |

| Program Description | The Urban and Regional Studies Institute is an interdisciplinary, national award-winning, degree program oriented toward examining and understanding the broad range of problems and challenges associated with the nation's urban and regional areas. There are many career opportunities in community development, urban or regional planning, design and management. This national award-winning program consists of class work, research and field experiences. Students are encouraged to undertake independent study, become involved in community service projects, participate in field studies and accept internships. The undergraduate major consists of 33 semester hours, including three foundation and four core courses covering the key areas in the field, and four elective courses in a focus area. A second major is strongly recommended. The Minor consists of 18 semester hours, focusing on the Foundation and Core Courses. |
