Program Description

You will interact with other students in the class via email, discussion boards, chats, and drop box sharing of assignments, to name just a few. This certificate has the potential to be used toward the license in ASD when it becomes available through the state.

Admission Requirements

Admission to MSU’s College of Graduate Studies

Entrance requirements for the graduate certificate in technical communication include:

  • BA or BS
  • A genuine interest in working with children who have Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • TOEFL base score of 550 or above for candidates whose native language is not English
Other Requirements

Courses that must be completed for this program include:

  • SPED 680 Characteristics and Assessment of Children with Autism (3 credits)
  • SPED 681 Teaching Children with Autism (3 credits)
  • SPED 682 Methods for Students with Asperger Syndrome (3 credits)
  • SPED 683 ASD Services and Supports across the Lifespan (3 credits)

Electives: SPED 590 Medical Issues in ASD – this course examines the role and future of medicine and medically oriented interventions for individuals with ASD. SPED 590 - Field Experience in ASD – demonstration of knowledge of 24 evidenced-based strategies.

***Graduates of the undergraduate DCD program through Minnesota State, Mankato. You will need to take 6 additional graduate
credits to complete this certificate, along with SPED 682 and 683. Additional information regarding the 6 credits can be obtained by
contacting the program coordinator listed on the back of this brochure.***
