Career Outlook Educational leadership careers can involve different types of learning environments, from pre-kindergarten to adult extension programs, and from public schools to private institutions.
Program Description

The Master of Science in Educational Leadership provides a flexible background for those who wish to tailor their program for a specific purpose, as well as for those who wish to have a broad background.

Admission Requirements

All applicants should submit the following to the College of Graduate Studies and Research:

  • A completed Application for Graduate Study,
  • Verification of the baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university,
  • Two official transcripts listing undergraduate/graduate degree(s) to be sent directly from the degree granting institution to the College of Graduate Studies and Research (including MSU students, undergraduates, faculty and staff), and
  • Any additional information required for international students, if appropriate.

The GRE is not required. Upon receipt of these materials, the College of Graduate Studies and Research will forward the applicant's file to the Department of Educational Leadership for admission recommendation. Admissions are made each semester and all application materials must be received by the deadlines for the semester applied.

Successful applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for the last two years of undergraduate study. Students pursuing teacher education must comply with all requirements of the College of Education.

Other Requirements

This program includes only graduate level courses, which are 500 and 600 level classes.

13 of the 34 credits include 9 required credits in the Leadership Core, 3 required credits in Research, and 1-3 credits in Project Demonstration.

11 of the 34 remaining credits may be taken from any of the classes in the Educational Leadership Department. That includes any courses with a prefix of Educational Administration, Educational Leadership, and Experiential Education.

10 of the 34 remaining credits may be taken either in the department or from other departments at MSU. Or, they may be taken at other accredited institutions and transferred to our university. Students should check with their advisor about the latter process.
