12:00PM – 3:00PM Family Association Luncheon and Meeting

Centennial Student Union 204

Come and join us in the inaugural meeting of the Family Association! This meeting will be instrumental in the planning of events, communications, etc. for all families for the next year. Please come and get involved! RSVP is required for this event, so we can plan for lunch.

5:00PM – 11:30PM FREE Cosmic Bowling and Billiards

Maverick Bullpen, lower level of the Centennial Student Union

You can sign up for one hour blocks of game time starting 15 minutes before each hour. For example, at 4:45pm you can sign up to play from 5-6pm. To allow for everyone a chance to enjoy the games, you cannot sign up for consecutive game times.

5:00PM Stomper’s Cinema - Planes: Fire and Rescue

Ostrander Auditorium, Centennial Student Union

A new comedy-adventure about second chances, featuring a dynamic crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfire. When world famous air racer Dusty learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting. Dusty joins forces with veteran fire and rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and his courageous team, including spirited super scooper Dipper, heavy-lift helicopter Windlifter, ex-military transport Cabbie and a lively bunch of brave all-terrain vehicles known as The Smokejumpers. Together, the fearless team battles a massive wildfire and Dusty learns what it takes to become a true hero. Family Weekend Button Required for Free Admission.

Head for a great workout, play some basketball, or do many other activities in our campus recreation center. Just sign in at the desk and enjoy your time at the Rec Center! Free access for our Family Weekend Guests. Open Gym, Walking/Jogging Track, Weight Room, Cardio Area and Racquetball Courts. No minors in Weight Room or Cardio Area.

7:00PM Maverick Volleyball vs. University of Mary

Taylor Center

Come and enjoy a volleyball match as the Mavericks take on the Marauders.  Family Weekend Button Required for Free Admission.

7:00PM – 9:00PM Friday Night Bonfire

Newman Center (Corner of Maywood and Warren St)

Enjoy a bonfire, ghost stories and s'mores as well as great company from other families!

8:00PM – 10:00PM Star Gazing

Andreas Observatory

See the universe like you've never seen it before - and learn something new about the expanses of space! Park your vehicle on the south end of Lot 1 (behind the old Gage Towers). You can reach the observatory by a short walk south on the gravel road from lot 1.

Join our Dean and student leaders for a program about the many resources available to College of Education students.
Program begins at 9:30 AM with a special welcome from the Dean of the College, Dr. Jean Haar, and Dean’s List recognition.
A light continental breakfast will be available

9:45AM Family Weekend Stomper Sprint

Fitness Trail: near the MSU softball fields and Lot 1

Calling all kids! Join us for your own Fun Run around our outdoor track! Ages 1 – 4: 100 meter run; Ages 5 – 12: 400 meter run (1 lap). No need to preregister. Meet at the entrance to the track (right next to the start of the 5K) by 8:40. If we have enough kids, we’ll do separate heats for ages 5 – 12.

10:00AM Family Weekend 5k Fun Run/Walk

Join us for a FREE non-competitive 5k fun run/walk on our paved fitness trail by the softball fields and Parking Lot 1. You must register before October 30th to be eligible for a t-shirt (first 200 people only). Registration is limited to Minnesota State Mankato students, faculty and staff, and their families. “Day Of” registrations are accepted starting at 9:30am. Waivers must be signed by all participants the morning of the event in order to participate. Refreshments will be provided at the finish line.

St. Thomas More Newman Center (across from the campus clock tower)

The Newman Center is a recognized vital student organization at Minnesota State University and has been serving students for almost 100 years! This year, we are making history with our new building on the east side of campus across from the campus clock tower!
Although the building will not be ready until January, 2015, the contractors are allowing us this special ‘sneak-preview’ inside the new building for Family Weekend! 10:30AM Legacy Breakfast

The Office of Alumni Relations presents this breakfast for students who have family members who are Alumni of Minnesota State University, Mankato. Invitations will be sent to Legacy Families. If you have not received an invitation, please contact the Alumni Office at 507-389-3235 or events@mnsu.edu. An RSVP is required.

Enjoy a BBQ tailgate party (Hot Dogs, Brats, Hamburgers, BBQ Pork, Baked Beans, Potato Salad and Soda) along with games, pumpkin painting, caricatures, photo booth, indoor rock wall climbing, inflatables and other great fun for the entire family, brought to you in part by the Residence Hall Association (RHA).

This event is Free, but to enjoy the BBQ there is an $8 cost per person. Pre-Registration is required.

2:00PM-6:00PM Outdoor Rock Climbing

Outdoor Rock Pinnacle-Behind Lot 1

Come and enjoy our Outdoor Rock Climing Wall!  The feel and texture of this climbing wall is amazingly realistic, allowing climbers to use natural features and attached handholds to climb unique routes up the wall. Take on the challenge of climbing this 35 foot pinnacle! Park in Lot 1 and take a short walk down the gravel road.  Family Weekend Button Required for Free Climbing.

Recital Hall

Enjoy a music recital about influential women in music throughout the decades. It will begin in the 1920s and take you through different genres until present day! It has a big band feel with drums, piano, guitar, trumpet, and saxophone. A high energy and fun filled performance.  Laken Fennern is very excited to share with everyone.
