Junior Muna Mohamed (International Relations, '18) was awarded the Gilman Scholarship for Summer 2017. Muna will study abroad in Fes, Morocco through the University of Minnesota.
Martin (Marty) Fankhanel has been awarded a Boren Fellowship to study in India during the 2017-18 academic year. Marty is currently a graduate student in Experiential Education at Minnesota State University, Mankato. After participating in the South Asian Flagship Language Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for eight weeks, Marty will study Urdu for four months in Lucknow, India.
Sophomore Lauren Hesser (Biomedicine, ‘19) was recently awarded a position in the 4th Annual Regenerative Medicine Summer School at the McGowan Institute. Lauren will spend a week participating in lectures, hands-on laboratory activities, and social and networking events.
Junior Mara Soupir (History/Anthropology, ‘18) was recently awarded a position in the Henry Clay Center for Statesmanship Student Congress. Mara will spend a week this June in Lexington, Kentucky deepening her skills of public dialogue and leadership.
Junior Brooke Jones (Biology '18) was recently awarded a position with the Amgen Scholars Program at Washington University in St. Louis. Brooke will receive a $4000 stipend to support an intensive 10-week laboratory experience.
Senior Megan Sandberg (Environmental Science '17) has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program English Teaching Assistantship in Ecuador for the 2017-2018 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
Minnesota State Mankato Sophomore Awarded Frankel Summer Fellowship at the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center
Sophomore Anjola Onadipe (Biomedical Sciences '19) was awarded the Frankel Summer Fellowship at the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center.
Senior Megan Sandberg (Environmental Sciences, '17) has been named a semi-finalist in the 2017-2018 Fulbright U.S. Student Program competition. Megan applied for an English Teaching Assistantship in Ecuador.
Senior Quentina Dunbar (Gender and Women’s Studies, ‘17) was awarded a position in the Relay Graduate School of Education’s Teaching Residency Program. The Residency offers a master’s degree in teaching while working full-time in a public school.
Senior Olivia Robinson (Business Management, '17) was selected as a finalist for the Zonta International Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship. Olivia received a $1,000 award from the Zonta Club of Mankato and was a runner-up internationally.
Junior Andrea Vasquez (International Relations, '18) was awarded the Gilman Scholarship for Spring 2017. Andrea will study in Bangalore, India through the University Studies Abroad Consortium.
Students interested in a career in public service should attend this informational session on November 28th from 12-1:30 in Armstrong Hall 123, featuring a representative from The Washington Center. The representative will focus on the Thomas R. Pickering Fellowship, an award available to juniors and seniors and administered by the U.S. Department of State.

Minnesota State senior Aaron Flomo (History '17) was recently awarded a spot in the Multicultural/Historically Black Institution Visitation Program at Purdue University.
Minnesota State student Olivia Robinson (Management '18) was recently awarded the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship from the Zonta Club of Mankato.
Minnesota State sophomore Alex Salazar (Biology, '18) was recently awarded an internship at Dartmouth College. Salazar will be participating in the Ecology, Evolution, Ecosystems & Society program.
Minnesota State senior Kyle Pirron (International Relations & German, '16) and graduate student Elizabeth Horneber (MFA, '16) were named Fulbright Semi-Finalists in the 2015-2016 competition. Pirron applied for an English Teaching Assistantship in Germany. Horneber applied for a Study/Research Award in South Korea.
Minnesota State alumna Laura Chopp (Biology, '15) was recently awarded The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP). Laura is currently enrolled in the Immuniology Graduate Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Other MSU, Mankato alumni who have recently received the NSF GRFP include Kurtis Malecha (Chemistry, '13) and Darin Weed (Biotechnology, '11).
Junior Prathiba Mangedarage (Biomedical Sciences, '17) was accepted to the Regenerative Medicine Summer School at the McGowan Institute in Pittsburgh, PA.
Junior Raine Mitchell (Biomedical Sciences, '18) was awarded a summer undergraduate research fellowship (SURF) at the Mayo Clinic.
Junior Stephanie Peterson (Biomedical Sciences, '18) was awarded a position in the Interdisciplinary Summer Undergraduate Research Program at the University of Iowa Graduate School.
Junior Natalie Moses (Biomedical Sciences/Chemistry '17) was awarded a summer undergraduate research fellowship (SURF) at the Mayo Clinic.
Junior Hailey Gorman (Biology '17) was awarded a summer experience at the School for Field Studies (SFS). Gorman will spend four weeks participating in the SFS program, Tourisms and Island Systems: Assessment of Sustainable Practices.
Senior Fartun Abukar Musse (Ethnic Studies '16) was awarded the Gilman Scholarship for Spring 2016. Musse will study abroad in Seoul, South Korea through the Minnesota State Mankato Exchange.
Junior Tatiana Soboleva was recently awarded the Chemistry/Biochemistry Summer Internship at Utah State University. Soboleva will be working in organometallics with Dr. Lisa Berreau.
Senior Kristi Paulsen was recently awarded a position with the Teaching Assistant Program in France. She will work with middle and high school students in mastering conversational English.
Sophomore and Civil Engineering major Amy Nguyen was awarded the Anne and John Frey Climate Change & Sustainability Undergraduate Research Fellowship to conduct her research project, Renewable Energy by Methanogenesis through Anaerobic Digestion.
Sophomore Chengleng Xiong (Social Work '16) was awarded a Gilman Scholarship for study abroad in Chiang Mai, Thailand during spring semester 2015.
Sophomore Makenzie Petzel (Social Work '16) was awarded a Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant. Petzel traveled to Costa Rica
Abrar Zawed was awarded a RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) Fellowship.
Westermayer (Psychology '15) was awarded a Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant. She traveled to Ecuador.
