Undecided about your major? Get advising at FYE!

Many students come to college undecided about their major. Some research suggests that 70% of students will change majors before they graduate - suggesting that even more students are undecided than they realize when they first begin college.

The Office of First Year Experience provides advising for all students (even if you're past your first year) who haven't picked a major yet, or who may be unsure of their initial choice of major. If you're considering a couple different majors, we can refer you to resources who can offer more information about different programs. Check out the following site for more information on strategies to pick a major.

When you make an appointment with an undecided advisor, come prepared by completing the steps below:

    1. Fill out an Advising Worksheet
    2. Use the list of General Education Courses in order to complete the Credit Evaluation Form (found below) that corresponds to the year you enrolled at MSU.
    3. Create a list of courses you would like to take next semester. Include backup courses.
    4. Use the course cart feature on E-Services to create your schedule of classes. (Reminder: Adding a course to your cart neither registers you for, nor reserves a seat in the course.)
