LC students who have signed up to participate in Priority Move In and Move Crew can move in to McElroy Residence Community on Wednesday, August 17 from 11 am to 3 pm. Details were provided in students' Orientation packets and emailed out; contact Kate Hansen in the Office of First Year Experience with questions.
As a part of Priority Move In Day, a dessert reception and Move Crew training will be provided at 7:30 pm in the Carkoski Commons Dining Hall. Students will receive their Move Crew shift assignment sand free t-shirt. Dress is casual and comfortable.
The dining facilities will NOT be open for dinner, so plan to just join us for dessert. The reception and training are just for students, so we ask that families say their good-byes before this event.
Each learning community will be assigned a shift together at one of our four residence communities. You'll work hard, assisting other new students with their move-in. You might be helping unload cars (but NOT moving things up to students' rooms), handing out maps, giving directions, etc.
One of the editors of our common read book, This I Believe: The Personal Philosophies of Remarkable Men and Women, will come to campus and help us engage in a discussion of beliefs. For more information on our learning communities program common read, please visit www.mnsu.edu/fye/communities/commonread.html.
Gediman will give a public presentation on the history and future of the This I Believe project. This event is open to the public.
Get your game face on! Join us for free fun, bowling, and billiards in the Maverick Bullpen, in the lower level of the Centennial Student Union. The Bullpen will be reserved for learning community students and friends only! Be sure to bring your MavCard!
Faculty from a variety of disciplines will discuss their perspectives and thoughts on the book and the issues within. Your LCCs will have prepared questions for the professors, but be sure to think about what you would like to ask as well. This event is open to the public.
Dr. David Engen (communication studies) will moderate the discussion. Panelists include Reverend Tim Berg (adjunct), Dr. Chris Corley (history, Honors Program Director), Dr. Emily Stark (psychology), and Dr. Sachi Sekimoto (communication studies).
Join us for our annual family cookout at Spring Lake Park in North Mankato during MSU's Family Weekend! We'll be set up at shelter #2 with hot dogs, yard games, and fun for the whole family! Learning community students, staff, faculty, and of course family members are welcome to stop by!

Representatives from a variety of religions and philosophies will discuss their beliefs. This event is intended to enlighten and educate, not to preach or persuade. This event is free and open to the public.
This will be a night to relax and acknowledge the accomplishments our LC students make during the fall semester. After dinner and presentations, we'll welcome ComedySportz, an improv comedy group from Minneapolis, to campus for some laughs! By invitation only: learning community students, faculty, staff, and administrators will be invited.
These events are for all learning communities. For Individual learning community events please contact your Learning Community Coordinator. Check back often for new events and updates!
