Anatomy of Nursing

 

If you’re planning to pursue a degree in Nursing, consider living and studying with other students who share your interest in healthcare. This Learning Community will help you develop a solid foundation in this challenging major.  You’ll meet faculty and staff, enhance your academic skills, and learn about career options.

What you'll take:

As a part of the learning community, you will be enrolled in the following courses:

*To enroll in the Anatomy of Nursing learning community, it is recommended that you have high school college preparatory Biology coursework.

What to do:

  • Apply and be admitted to Minnesota State Mankato as a first-year student for fall semester 2008.
  • Have a Residential Life housing contract for the 2008-2009 academic year.
  • Take a college preparatory Biology class in high school (highly recommended).

Army ROTC

 

In this learning community, you’ll immediately be immersed in Army ROTC courses and enjoy strong faculty connections and peer interaction.  You'll also have the opportunity to improve your physical fitness and leadership skills while earning some general education credits.  Students who enroll in this Learning Community are not required to join the Army ROTC program.

Choosing and Changing Majors

You’ll learn new tools to help you set and reach personal goals and become a successful lifelong learner.

Dental Hygiene

If you’re a future dental hygienist, this learning community will give you camaraderie and support as you complete Dental Hygiene prerequisite courses, participate in activities, and develop relationships with faculty from the Dental Hygiene department.

What you'll take:

*It is recommended, although not a part of the learning community courses, that students also register for:

*Failure to complete a minimum of 16 credits per semester may result in a 5 year completion of the bachelor degree.

Exploring Allied Health Careers

 

If you’re interested in working in the health professions but haven’t narrowed it down to a specific field, this learning community may be for you.  You’ll develop strong connections to faculty and staff in the College of Allied Health and Nursing who will guide you through the wide variety of careers in the health fields.  The courses offered fill requirements for many health related majors as well as General Education requirements.

If you plan to enter the business world, these popular learning communities will help you distinguish between the various majors and career paths within the fields of Business and Economics. You’ll also learn how to apply the tools and principles of these two fields to your own personal and business decisions through active learning and group work.

Not only will you receive an introduction to the fields of Civil and Mechanical Engineering in this learning community, you will also have the opportunity to interact with select faculty from these departments, take part in organized study groups and interact with peers studying the same subjects. This learning community is recommended only for students majoring in Civil and Mechanical Engineering. It is NOT recommended for students with any other major.
