Workshops focus on a variety of skills!!!

Currently, the FYE staff members present on topics such as: motivation and goal setting, time management, and academic advising and registration. We are always open to developing new workshops based on specific needs of students. When filling out the workshop request form, please indicate any specific skills you would like our staff members to include in the workshop.

The workshop descriptions below provide a general overview about each workshop. Workshops may vary in terms of content and delivery due to facilitator discretion.

 Motivation and Goal Setting

  • Facilitators will define and discuss SMART goals.
  • Students will spend time creating personal goals.
  • An activity or discussion will address de-motivators and how to combat them by using accountability partners and personal rewards system.

Advising and Registration

  • Jeopardy will be used to cover information about general education, advising, academic standards, and fun facts about campus.
  • We would also review how to prepare for advising appointments and registration.
  • Our facilitators know general information about all the majors. Please include any specific information you would like covered for a given major or college in your workshop request form.

Time Management

  • Facilitators may implement Family Feud to introduce students to time wasters and how to combat them.
  • Time Management strategies will be covered and resources for students will be provided.
  • Time will allow for student to practice one of the time management strategies introduced.

Anyone can request a workshop!!!

FYE staff members often present workshops for FYE Seminar Classes, Learning Community Students, and in the residence halls by the request of the CA. Please give us two weeks advanced notice when requesting a workshop.

We will come to you!!!

Workshops can be facilitated in a variety of locations. FYE staff members will present workshops in classrooms, the lounges in the residence halls,  or even outside.
