Family Orientation Dates

Thirteen different Summer Orientation dates are offered throughout June and July for family/guests. Each session begins about 12:30 p.m. on day one and concludes about 4:00 p.m. on day two. Invitations for Summer Orientation will be sent out in early April. Once your student receives an invitation, the student must register the family member/guests on his/her reservation. Students can register for Orientation online or by mailing in his/her registration form.

 

  • Session 1: June 4-5, 2012 (Monday-Tuesday)
  • Session 2: June 7-8, 2012 (Thursday-Friday)
  • Session 3: June 11-12, 2012 (Monday-Tuesday)
  • Session 4: June 13-14, 2012 (Wednesday-Thursday)
  • Session 5: June 18-19, 2012 (Monday-Tuesday)
  • Session 6: June 20-21, 2012 (Wednesday-Thursday)
  • Session 7: June 25-26, 2012 (Monday-Tuesday)
  • Session 8: June 27-28, 2012 (Wednesday-Thursday)
  • Session 9: July 9-10, 2012 (Monday-Tuesday)
  • Session 10: July 11-12, 2012 (Wednesday-Thursday)
  • Session 11: July 16-17, 2012 (Monday-Tuesday)
  • Session 12: July 18-19, 2012 (Wednesday-Thursday)
  • Session 13: July 23-24, 2012 (Monday-Tuesday)

Please note that there is not a separate Family Orientation for Orientation programs in August and January; however family and guests are still welcome to attend.

 

Tentative Family Orientation Program Agenda

Students are required to attend the entire two day Orientation program in order to register for classes. Family and guests are encouraged to attend as much as the program as possible. Program check-in begins at 11:30 a.m. on day one, and typically ends by 4:00 p.m. on day two. Some students may have to arrive earlier than 11:30 a.m. on day one to complete Math and English Placement Testing. Lunch is not included on day one of Orientation. 

Day One

Prior to Orientation Check-in (Students Only)

  • Math and English Placement Testing
  • Get your MavCARD

11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Orientation Check-in

1:00-5:00 p.m.: Information Sessions

  • Student Financial Services, Campus Hub, and MavCARD
  • Academic Expectations and Information by major/college
  • Residential Life
  • Dining Services

5:00- 6:00 p.m.: Dinner

6:30-8:30 p.m. : Nighttime Orientation Activities

  • A student panel
  • Meeting other parents
  • Parent social and activities 
     

Day Two

7:15-8:30 a.m.: Room Checkout and Breakfast

8:30-11:15 a.m.: Morning Information Sessions

  • Faculty panel
  • Parents in Transition
  • Campus Resource and Office Fair
  • Financing your Student's Education

11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Lunch and Residence Hall Tours

12:30-4:00 p.m.: Afternoon Information Sessions

  • Student Health Services
  • Security and Campus Safety
  • Residential Life and the Parent Transition
  • Wellness panel

12:30-4:00 p.m.: Student Advising and Registration (Students Only)
