What is the Summer Orientation Program?

New Student Orientation is a two-day program designed specifically for you…the first-time new student…and your family. Orientation provides you with individual attention, social interaction and valuable information, all of which help you with your transition into college.

Students

During summer orientation you will receive academic advising, develop a class schedule, and register for fall 2008. Minnesota State Mankato policy requires that all new students receive academic advising before registering for classes. New students who do not attend orientation in June or July should expect to attend late orientation in August

Family

While attendance is not required, family members are strongly encouraged to participate. The session for family offers an extensive orientation to Minnesota State Mankato and its services. Sessions include informational meetings on academic requirements, student life, on-campus housing, how to "do business" with the university, and resources on how you can be a positive advocate for your student's successful transition to Minnesota State Mankato!

What to expect

During your time on campus you will have the opportunity to interact with students, faculty and staff. Find out about the many opportunities you have to get involved in campus life. The business office, financial aid, and housing and dining services will talk to you about the services they offer. This is also a great time to start building relationships with other new students.

Dinner is provided on day one of the program; please plan to eat lunch prior to the start of the program that day. Breakfast and lunch are provided on the second day of the program.

Check-in will begin at 11:30 a.m. on the first day of your program. The program will begin at 1:00 p.m. Please plan to be on time as the information being covered will not be repeated.
