Important Math Assessment Information

Minnesota State Mankato is committed to student academic success.  The ACT Math sub score is used for initial placement for mathematics course enrollment.  Students whose official reported ACT Math score is 18 or lower will be required to take Math 098 before enrolling in a credit-bearing mathematics course.  Credits for Math 098 are not applicable for degree but are applicable for financial aid and full-time student status.  If you believe that your ACT Math score does not reflect your math skills, you may take the Accuplacer assessment test to demonstrate mastery sufficient for placement in a college-level credit-bearing course.  Click here for a flow chart of math placement based on ACT subscore.

The Accuplacer assessment test will be administered beginning at 9:00 a.m. the morning of the first day of the orientation session.  The placement test is a computer based, multiple choice exam and calculators are not permitted.  The exam is not timed and will be offered between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.  Further information will be sent to you after you have registered for an orientation session.  This information will include Minnesota State Mankato's recommendation for testing based upon a number of criteria including ACT Math sub score, planned major, and previous college level math credits taken.  If you have questions regarding the placement test, you may call the Center for Academic Success at (507) 389-1791.
