Our campus buildings feature prominent names. We’re grateful that the below buildings came to be through the generous private donations of alumni and friends.
Andreas ObservatoryThe Andreas Observatory, completed in 1990, was made possible through a $230,000 gift from Lowell and Nadine Andreas of Mankato. The building houses a state of the art telescope which was funded through a National Science Foundation grant. The Observatory is located at the southern end of the Minnesota State campus near the ROTC tower and the Experiential Education Ropes Course. Besides being used for classroom and research projects, it is open to the public during major astronomical events.
Ostrander-Student Memorial Bell TowerThe Ostrander-Student Memorial Bell Tower stands in the campus arboretum. Its construction was made possible by a donation from Lloyd B. Ostrander, a 1927 MSU graduate, his wife, Mildred, and donations from the Student Association and other contributors. The Bell Tower was completed in 1989.
Taylor CenterThe Taylor Center, completed in 2000, was made possible by a generous lead donation of $9.2 million from Glen A. Taylor, a 1962 Minnesota State graduate, and donations from other contributors. It houses Bresnan Arena, a 4,800-seat facility which is home to Maverick basketball, volleyball and wrestling teams. The University Admissions office is also located here and the 5,000 square-foot Hall of Champions showcases the University's proud history. In addition to Maverick athletic events and other sporting activities, Taylor Center hosts commencement ceremonies, major concerts and lectures.
