Message from Brian L. Frink: 2016-2017 Campus Drive Chairperson

Dear Minnesota State Mankato Faculty, Staff, Retirees, and Emeriti:

"The real story of creativity is more difficult and strange than many overly optimistic accounts have claimed."— Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Creativity: Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention

It is my honor to be the chairperson for the Campus Drive and I invite you to join me by participating with a gift to make an impact for our students. As a Professor of Art at Minnesota State University, Mankato, one would think my primary task would be to teach about art. This is partially true; however, I believe my primary responsibility is to teach creativity.

Our goal this year is to have 850 faculty, staff, retirees and emeriti participate —in gifts of any amount— by June 30, 2017 (that’s only 40% participation, so I’ll hope we exceed that goal!). When you participate in the Campus Drive, together, we are investing in today’s University and tomorrow’s leaders. Please reflect on the impact Minnesota State Mankato has in your life and in the community, and then give a gift: Be one of at least 850 “big ideas” this year!

Our University has supported my creative research goals and ambitions for the past twenty-eight years. I would not be the artist I am without the support I have received at Minnesota State Mankato. Creativity isn’t about the individual; it is about the power of our collective vision derived from many stories. Helping students unlock their creativity, to help them tell their story, brings me great joy and purpose. The art department provides student opportunities such as spaces to exhibit creative work, undergraduate research conferences to present research and a multitude of enrichment opportunities, from campus lectures to international study.

I encourage you to support our campus community. You may give a tax-deductible gift to the Academic Scholarship Program, Student Union—Veterans Resource Center, or choose from more than 1,000 funds to designate your gift. Personally, I find that payroll deduction is a very convenient way to invest in our University. You can also give securely online at www.mnsu.edu/campusdrive or return your gift in the convenient reply envelope.

Thank you for your consideration!

Give every year. Make a difference every day - now more than ever!

Your participation gift of $26.00 would be $1 per pay period. If each of the approximate 2,000 faculty and staff members on campus committed to that, it would equal over $52,000 for the University! Or, a gift of $18.68, $145.00 or $1,868 represents our 1868 founding year 146 years ago. Please join us and participate in this annual event for faculty, staff, retirees and emeriti. Please give today!
