IPESL Facilitators

The IPESL Facilitators selection was completed on December 5, 2006

The MSU IPESL Committee is seeking applicants interested in serving as learning community facilitators, faculty fellows, and workshop presenters. All positions are open to any full-time MSU faculty member. Faculty may apply and receive an IPESL Project Grant and serve in any of these roles.

Faculty interested in applying for one or more positions should complete the form below and send to Dan Cronn-Mills, IPESL Committee chair, 230 Armstrong Hall.

IPESL Learning Communities Facilitators

5 Faculty Positions @ $3,000 each

5 faculty are needed to serve as facilitators for learning communities. The learning communities will be composed of "awarded faculty" who come together 4-5 times during the spring 2007 semester to share their ideas and work. Learning Community facilitators will receive a stipend of $3,000 for work during spring semester 2007. Facilitators are needed who are able to work easily with up to 10 faculty from many different disciplines in their group. A background in course design/critical thinking skills is desirable but not required. All facilitators will attend content workshops and meet as a group prior to beginning their work to prepare for the semester. All facilitators will work closely with Stewart Ross, the Project Manager of Learning Communities for the IPESL program.

The IPESL program is a $304,000 initiative from Minnesota State for faculty development. The program features more than 40 faculty receiving a minimum of $5,500 to focus on critical thinking skills for students in designing or redesigning courses during the spring and summer semester 2007.

IPESL Faculty Fellows

Two faculty members @ $6,000 each

Faculty Fellows will work with the IPESL project managers to direct the project. Fellow duties may include coordination and assessment of faculty projects. IPESL has three project managers: assessment, learning communities, and administration. Fellows may use the stipend for any combination of course release and/or extra duty days.

IPESL Critical Thinking Workshop Presenters

Three faculty members @ $4,000 each for faculty workshops and individual consultation

The role of critical-thinking workshop presenters is crucial to the success of the program. The presenters will provide ways for faculty to infuse courses with critical thinking skills for students. Faculty with a background in critical thinking theory and experience developing and teaching this skill are encouraged to apply for these positions. Presenters will provide 3-4 workshops for faculty in critical thinking. Presenters will also be available for one-on-one consulting with faculty in the IPESL program.

IPESL Course Design Workshop Presenter

One faculty member @ $5,000 for Course Redesign workshops and individual consultation

The role of the course design presenter is crucial to the success of the program since course design/redesign is a key part of faculty work. Faculty with a background in teaching course design are encouraged to apply for this position. The presenter is responsible for 2-3 workshops for faculty on course design/redesign. The presenter will also be available for one-on-one consulting with faculty in the IPESL program.
