Monday, September 22

Cake with the Candidates and Tie Dying T-Shirts

Minnesota State Mankato Mall
Homecoming week is here and it is time to meet the homecoming royalty candidates. Who are you going to vote for?  Meet the candidates, check out their cake-decorating skills, and get a piece of cake. In addition, grab a t-shirt and create your own tie dye creation!

Homecoming Block Party
Performing Arts Center Lawn

Did you perfect your lawn game techniques or learn new dance moves back home this summer? With a DJ dance, lawn games, free snacks there is something for everyone at the Homecoming Block Party! Compete in the Maverick bean bag toss, washers, and ladder golf tournaments, dance to DJ’d music, and hang out with your friends while kicking off the week of Homecoming events. Tuesday, September 23

Canned Food Drive / Can Sculptures
Minnesota State Mankato Mall

With rising food prices, the number of people in our community who are struggling to meet their basic needs continues to rise.  Join the strong MSU tradition of helping those in need in the Mankato area while having a fun at the same time. Bring your canned foods to the Mall and show off your artistic flair by creating your unique food sculpture.

Volleyball - Minnesota State University vs. Saint Cloud State University
Taylor Center, Bresnan Arena

After thirteen road games to start the season, the Mavericks Volleyball team finally hosts a team on its home court.  Come cheer on the Mavericks as they take on the Huskies of St. Cloud State.  In addition to seeing a great game, one MSU student will be chosen to win a cash prize of $5,000 during the game! The winner selected must be in attendance to claim their prize. The first 250 students also receive a free sub sample from Erbert & Gerbert’s Subs and Clubs, $5 Gift Certificate from Erbert & Gerbert’s Subs and Clubs and one student will win free subs for a year!

Wednesday, September 24

Food Eating Contest
Minnesota State Mankato Mall

On Wednesday, things are really starting to heat up. Who will be MSU’s Competitive Eating Champ in 2008?  For the competitive edge, try checking out Sonya ‘The Black Widow’s’ Thomas training techniques. Bring a nickname and take a seat on stage if you want to compete, or just cheer on the eaters and take in food at your own pace in the audience.

Dodgeball Tournament
Myers Field House

Grab your friends and get ready to compete in the campus-wide dodgeball tournament. Homemade uniforms are strongly encouraged, but not required. However, all players must be ready to have a great time.  “Just remember the five Ds of dodgeball: Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge.”

RHA What’s on Wednesday: Legends of the Hidden Temple
Performing Arts Center Lawn

Think you have what it takes to face Olmec on the Steps of Knowledge, compete in Temple Games, and get past the Shrine of the Silver Monkeys?
Come cheer on the contestants (or earn on spot on the team!) from your residence hall community as they compete in challenges based on the Legends of the Hidden Temple television show. Teams will compete in elimination contests until one team remains and is declared the winner. Prizes will be awarded to contestants, with a “Grand Prize” for the team who earns the right to enter the Hidden Temple! The choices are yours, and yours alone.

Chicago Afrobeat¹s range of influences- funk, rock,  jazz, afro-cuban, high life and juju music ­ settle into a hypnotic, dance-compelling pulse characterized by melodic and hard-hitting horn lines and a cutting, driven rhythm section. Maverick Pep Rally Featuring Johnny Holm
Rugby Pitch (Old track behind Gage)

Come out to the old track for a night you will be sure to remember, with a bonfire, music and concessions.  The tunes of Johnny Holm and his band will highlight the 2008 Homecoming Pep Rally. Bring your school spirit, but please don’t bring any bags, outside food or beverages. This event is FREE with your MavCard. Your friends age 18 and over can join the fun for $10 payable at the door. In case of rain, this event will be held in the CSU Ballroom.

The Circle K Club 30th Anniversary Reunion

Wake up, grab some breakfast and head over to campus to take part in this memorable Homecoming event, the MSU Homecoming Parade. See the crazy and creative floats constructed by MSU students, check out the fun to be had at local Mankato businesses, and listen to live music. Don’t miss the fun or the free parade candy!

Help celebrate MSU's Homecoming with great music, door prizes and fun! Car show judgning begins at 5:00 p.m. Classes for judging cars: classic, modern muscle and tuner. Classes for judging bikes: super sport and harley/custon. Suggested donation: $20 for cars, $15 for bikes, $15 for MSU students/alumni. All proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Comedian John Oliver

You may recognize him from his correspondent role on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Tonight John Oliver will entertain MSU, Mankato during the Blowout Comedy Event for Homecoming 2008. In addition to writing and performing on the Daily Show, John Oliver’s comedy has packed houses in his native England, won him the Breakout award at the Aspen Comedy festival, and earned him an hour long special on Comedy Central.  Mark your calendars and make sure not to miss this hilarious night of comedy. Free to all! No backpacks, outside food or beverages allowed.
