Humanities Graduate in Mongolia

Tysen with widlife

"Coming into the Humanities program at MSU, Mankato I was a clean cut southern Minnesotan Lutheran preparing for a career in the Christian ministry. I thought that the Humanities program would provide a strong foundation on which I could later proclaim my truth to others. Instead it turned me into a truth searcher and cultural diversity admirer. Humanities courses enticed me to engage with then dangerous ideas I had never before encountered, appreciate beauty in a plethora of forms which I had never imagined possible, and opened me up to seeing our world in a kaleidoscope of ways. Unlike many Humanities programs, MSUM's offers courses in both Western and Global Humanities. These non-Western focused courses planted the seed of cultural curiousity which is currently flowering in Mongolia where I teach college English as a Peace Corps volunteer. In a diverse world of inevitable career and life changes I cannot imagine a better intellectual preparation than what the MSUM Humanities program povided me: a thorough investigation of the worl'd beliefs, ideas, and arts."
