 New international students and international students transferring to Minnesota State University, Mankato from another U.S. institution are required to attend all days of the New International Student Orientation starting August 19, 20, 21, 2008.  You cannot register for classes and attend Minnesota State University, Mankato unless you attend all days of Orientation. If  unforseen circumstances beyond your control prevent you from attending the first day of or, prior arrangements to excuse your absence can be made with the International Center in rare cases - submit in writing to iso@mnsu.edu for consideration of a late arrival. There is a $55 Orientation fee charged when you register for classes at MSU to cover the expenses of the Orientation program. This fee will be included on your Tuition and Fees billing when you register.

 

When you check in at the International Student Office, please bring with you:

* Your passport

* Your I-94 arrival departure card (You will receive this small white card upon arrival in the U.S.)

* Your I-20 copy (or DS-2019) and previous I-20s if you are a transferred student

* Your updated transcript (if you are a transfer student)

* Any other admission-related official documents you may possess.

 

On the orientation week, all new and  transfer students should expect to take:

* The tuberculosis (T.B.) test. Please visit http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/idepc/diseases/tb/factsheets/tsteng.pdf to learn more about the test and what to expect. The Physicians at the University Health Centers will determine whether or not you will need to take the test.

* Math placement test (depending on major). Graduate stduent are not required to take the Math placement test.

* English placement test (depending on TOEFL/IELTS score). A list of those who will need to take the test will be posted during orienation. This test does not impact your admission status, it only helps identify the appropriate English course that matches your skill level. This ensures better academic success.

* Register for KSP 106 – adjustment to U.S. Culture Course (if you have been to the United States for less than a year)

 The orientation sessions are intended to inform you about the rules and regulations of Minnesota State University, Mankato and constantly changing rules of immigration related to International students studying in the U.S. Therefore, it is very important to attend these sessions. It will also be an opportunity to meet other students.
