Double check network settings by using the setup guide.
After completing the registration steps, make sure to completely shut down your computer, unplug everything and wait 10 minutes before restarting the computer and reinserting the Ethernet cable.
Disable any proxy server connections.
Windows
Internet Explorer 6
Open the Tools menu and select Internet Options...
Select the Connections tab and click on the LAN Settings... button.
Make sure that the 'Automatically detect settings', 'Use automatic configuration script', and 'Use a proxy server' boxes are unchecked.
Internet Explorer 7
Click on the Tools button to open the menu.
Select Internet Options.
Select the Connections tab and click on the LAN Settings button.
Make sure that the 'Automatically detect settings', 'Use automatic configuration script', and 'Use a proxy server' boxes are unchecked.
Netscape
Open the Edit menu and select Preferences.
Select the Advanced from the Category listing.
Highlight Proxies and select the 'Direct Connection to the Internet' option.
Firefox & Mozilla
Open the Tools menu and select Options…
Select Connection Settings… from the General tab.
Click on the 'Direct Connection to the Internet' option.
Mac OS

From the menu bar, choose 'Edit,' then 'Preferences.'
Choose the 'Proxies' tab from the right side under 'Network.'
Make sure nothing is selected under 'Use Proxy Servers.'
Safari
From the menu bar, select Safari > Preferences.
Choose the 'Advanced' tab, then click 'Change Settings.'
Make sure nothing is selected under 'Select a Proxy Server to Configure.'
Firefox
From the menu bar, select Firefox > Preferences.
Select 'Connection Settings' from the General tab.
Click on the 'Direct Connection to the Internet' option.
Make sure that you are using a CAT 5/5e/6 Ethernet cable, not a phone cable. The Ethernet cable should have eight pins, visible on either end.
Try connecting with the Ethernet cable of another resident who has a functioning network connection.
Check to see if you are getting an IP address.
Windows 2000 / XP
Open the Start menu and select the Run… option.
Type cmd in the Open: field
When the command prompt window opens, type ipconfig/all
Your IP address will be listed, along with other information about your network connection, and should begin with 24.x.x.x if registered, or 10.54.x.x if not.
Windows Vista
Click on the windows logo in your lower left hand corner
Type cmd in the start search field
When the command prompt window opens, type ipconfig/all
Your IP address will be listed, along with other information about your network connection, and should begin with 24.x.x.x if registered, or 10.54.x.x if not.
Mac OS X
Click Apple > System Preferences.
Select Network.
Click on 'Built-In Ethernet,' then click configure.
Your IP Address should begin with 24.x.x.x if registered, or 10.54.x.x. if not.
Disable any software firewalls you may have installed.
