As part of your Student Technology Fees, students can print 300 pages each semester at no charge. Color laser printers are also available for use in the ACC and Memorial Library (higher costs apply to color).
From a campus computer:
Log on to any campus computer. When you are ready to print, click File | Print (or click the Print icon). Your print job is now in the MavPRINT system. Find a MavPRINT printer and log on to the MavPRINT release station. Select your print job(s) and click Print. Your print job will be printed on that printer.
From your own laptop:
Printing from your laptop is the same as from a campus computer, but you must first install the MavPRINT printers on your laptop. Follow the installation instructions below:
MavPRINT prints on both sides of the paper by default.
Last year students printed nearly 5.5 million pages. Stacked up, that would be 12 times taller than Gage towers!!! Although good for the glutes, it’s hard on the backs because students carry all that paper around.
To save paper and go green, MavPRINT now prints on both sides of the sheet of paper by default.
Like a book or newspaper, each sheet of paper consists of two pages. Printing has always been charged by the number of pages printed, NOT by the sheets of paper printed on. So printing a 10-page document would now be printed both sides of 5 sheets of paper and the charge would be for the 10 pages (50 cents) – same as always. You will just walk away with 5 sheets of paper rather than 10 sheets.
What’s going to happen to all of the money saved by 2-sided printing? It will pay for higher paper costs and used to provide you with new technology. Slowing the increasing costs of printing will also help keep Student Technology Fees from increasing. Paper costs have increased substantially this year.
Students can print from any campus computer (and your own laptop through the MavNet Wireless Network) to any available MavPRINT printer throughout campus. Color laser printing is also available to students in the ACC or Memorial Library.
MavPRINT Student Printers are available in the following locations:
MavPRINT works like an ATM. You print (deposit) a document from a computer, then you can use any available MavPRINT printer on campus to print that document.
Getting Help
Help is available in the ACC, Copy Shop in Memorial Library, or through the IT Service Desk at (507) 389-6654 or servicedesk@mnsu.edu
Each student is provided $15.00 each semester (fall, spring and summer) for printing. This will make available 300 pages of black laser prints per semester at any MavPRINT printer at no charge. Color laser printers are also available to students at a higher cost per page.
If a student uses up their $15.00 printing quota, cash can be added to their MavCASH account three ways:
At the beginning of each semester, $15.00 will be added back into your MavPRINT account allowing 300 more pages to print. Value in your cash account will be carried forward; however, money given to you in your MavPRINT account will be depleted before prints are paid for from your cash account again.
TIPS are available here to maximize the amount of available FREE printing you can do. Even tips for alternatives to printing!
For the last two years, students had to wait in line at the library copy shop to request their prints. MavPRINT will provide 6 laser printers in the library for students to use in addition to printers in the Academic Computer Center (ACC) and satellite labs. Additional printers may be added in the future at various locations throughout campus for students to use.
At some locations around campus, if a printer was out of service that you already tried to print to, it would be printed later and abandoned on the printer. This also happened when the wrong printer was selected. MavPRINT will reduce the risk of your work laying around for someone to pick up. You only see your available prints at the release station.
MavPRINT works like an ATM. You submit a document to be printed at a computer or laptop on campus, then you can go to any available MavPRINT printer to print it. If a printer is busy or out of service, you can simply find another available printer, login to the release station and print your job.
Students with laptops using MavNet will be able to print from their laptops on any MavPRINT printer.
Student can choose to print pictures or important reports out on a color laser printers. Color printing is available in the ACC and Memorial Library.
MavPRINT will help us forecast usage, prevent bottlenecks and help us find ways to control waste. We will also be able to tell how each printer is utilized so printers can be moved to locations where students use them. We can also rotate printers to provide uniform use and wear.
Students will be allocated an equivalent of 300 black laser pages to print each semester at no charge. Students can choose to print with either black or color laser printers (color laser prints being more expensive). Students and faculty should be advised that when the student's account is depleted, the student will need to add cash to their account at the MavCARD office, Memorial Library Copy Shop, or via credit card on the MavPRINT web site (coming this fall). Students can stretch their free prints further by printing two pages on each side of the paper, or by printing PowerPoint slides in outline mode. Instructions to conserve printing (and reducing waste) will be available in the library and the ACC.
MavPRINT is the same print management system (Pharos Uniprint) available at hundreds of colleges and universities across the U.S. and is one of the best systems available for academic use.
