Install

After downloading, the MSU VPN file will appear on the desktop, or the directory you selected during the download process.

  1. Double-click the msu-vpn-client.dmg file. Double-click the CiscoVPNClient icon that appears. A new window opens.
  2. Double-click the Cisco VPN Client.mpkg file.
  3. Follow the installation wizard to complete the installation. For more specific guidance follow the installation instructions.
    1. Click Next. The dialogue box advances to the License step.
    2. Click Continue. A license agreement confirmation pops up.
    3. Click Agree to continue with installation. The dialog box advances to the Select Destination step.
    4. A CiscoVPNClient icon appears along with your computer's drives. You must select you computer's primary hard drive—the one Mac OS is installed on. Click Continue.
    5. The dialog box advances to "Installation Type" screen. Click Install, or Upgrade, depending on the computer.
    6. The installation progress indicator appears, and indicates successful installation upon completion.
      Note: you may be prompted for a name and a password. In this case, enter a username and password with administrative privileges for your computer.
    7. Click Close.

Connect

Note: you must have an established internet connection (e.g., dial-up, cable, DSL) to use MSU VPN.

  1. Double-click the Mac VPN icon icon (located in the Applications folder on the hard drive you selected during installation). The VPN Client connection dialog box opens.

  2. Click Connect. The User Authentication screen opens. Type in your campus username and password (the same username and password you use for MavMAIL, MavDISK, workstation login or the MSU Portal).

  3. Click OK. The VPN Client welcome dialog box opens. You are now connected to the MSU network.
  4. Click Continue. The Mac Dock Icon icon will remain in the Dock, usually located at the bottom of the screen, for as long as the VPN is running.

Use

Disconnect

  1. Click the Mac Dock Icon icon in the Dock. The VPN Client connection dialog box opens.

  2. Click Disconnect. There are no time limits on your use of VPN. However, we encourage you to disconnect from VPN when you no longer need the access or security provided by the service. When turned on, the VPN lowers your overall internet speed.
