Time Frame for Proposed Activities
- Initial Priorities: 1995-1996
- Create organizational structure in accordance with KISPC bylaws.
- Secure and begin to furnish permanent site for KISPC in Memorial Library.
- Acquire letterhead stationary and other means of disseminating the KISPC
logo.
- Initiate paid staffing with the recruitment of a graduate assistant.
- Begin inventory of peace-related materials, activities, and talents
on the MSU campus.
- Support the Department of Political Science in presenting 10th Annual
Kessel Lecture.
- Support continuation of the monthly Kessel Discussion Group.
- Plan and sponsor symposium on the anniversary of the United Nations,
bringing together local scholars, activists, and interested persons for
exchange of ideas/insights.
- Publish the Proceedings of the UN Symposium.
- Secure endowment funding for a staff position to coordinate the Institute's
activities.
- Develop a process to review and evaluate KISPC activities and goals.
- New Activities: 1995-1998
- Acquire computer and additional office furniture as needed.
- Sponsor annual symposium on peace-related topic, patterned after initial
UN symposium.
- Expand and continually update inventory of peace-related materials,
activities, and talents, including resources in the surrounding community.
- Begin program of community-based discussion of current peace-related
issues.
- Propose summer Elderhostel in consultation with director of existing
MSU program; if approved, sponsor a week of peace-related study for older
adults.
- Secure well-known speaker for fund-raising event to enhance visibility
of the institute.
- Establish and coordinate speakers' bureau on peace-related topics.
- Publish periodic KISPC Newsletter; design Resource Center and Information.
- New Activities: 1995-2000
- Sponsor summer youth camp.
- Publish occasional papers reflecting current research and writing on
peace issues.
- Review and update networking with local peace-related groups and organizations;
expand network to include regional, national, and international organizations.
- Support and publicize workshops on conflict resolution; build on experience
gained by multi-disciplinary MSU project on cross-cultural conflict resolution
funded by Minnesota Legislature in 1994 and 1995.
- New Activities: 1995-2002
- Coordinate mediation services for use by campus and community groups;
build on experience gained by multi-disciplinary MSU project to establish
a student-run mediation Center, funded by Minnesota Legislature in 1994-1995.
- Award scholarships and fellowships for study of peace-related issues,
including historical, contemporary, and emerging topics.
- Design 10-year anniversary celebration and evaluation of KISPC activities.
