World Beat Playlist for July 2000 - host/producer Mark R. Thomas
Special Guest & co-host - Mike (the Aussie) Whitney

This evening we will be lead on a two-hour, in-depth exploration of the Australian soundscape; from outback billibongs to urban jungles. Our muscial tour guide and co-host for the evening's Australian World Music Adventure is, Mike (the Aussie) Whitney.

Good evening Mike and Welcome to the World Beat!

I've played Australian music on a number of World Beat shows including the groups, Outback, Yothu Yindi, Baka Beyond and recently some tunes from a CD by David Hudson. A CD that was purchased by a friend of mine from the artist on the streets of Sidney. Recently, I've been listening to music from the self-titled CD by Tjalkuri; from a 1996 recording which just came into KMSU studios this month.

My exploration of Australian music has focused on the distinctive and hypnotic sound of the Digeridoo… roots music emanating from the oldest intact civilization on the planet, a ethnic group with a fifty thousand year, continuous history .

It will be interesting to hear the music from your Australian music collection, but before turning to show over to you we will be hearing my Austrailian music contributions for the evening.
