ITSS has developed a number of tools and processes to help manage student employee resources.
The first development is a web-based student work schedule program where work shifts for all student employees can be viewed by the students and their supervisors. Students have the ability to check their work schedules and trade work shifts. Supervisors have real-time information on who is working, who is scheduled to be working in a given area, total work hours for a time period and much more. The program sends messages for early, late, or missed work shifts and dumps log in/out times directly to payroll time sheets.
The second development is a new computer lab coverage and support model. We no longer staff all computer labs with a student, instead we "patrol" a set of labs, spending a short time in each room before moving to the next. This has allowed us to cut our student computer lab consultant payroll by more than 1/3 yet maintain a high response level when lab users request help.
Come see how these improvements have had some significant changes on our student employees and the services our department provides!
