Mastering the French language allows students to live and work anywhere in the world where French is spoken and prepares them for careers in a global environment. It gives students an edge when looking for job opportunities with companies that are based in or do business with other companies in French-speaking nations. It gives them an understanding of French culture, literature and history that will help them feel at home in France and elsewhere around the world. That’s one of the reasons why we strongly encourage French majors to take advantage of the summer study abroad program in France, which can count towards college credits here if arrangements are made in advance.
The Department of World Languages & Cultures offers the following French degrees:
- Bachelor of Arts
- Bachelor of Science
- Bachelor of Science in Teaching
A French minor is also offered. Detailed program requirements for all French majors and the minor may be found in the Undergraduate Bulletin and a simplified set of FAQs about majoring or minoring in French is available, as well.
