Scandinavian Studies

Minnesota State University is the only public university in Minnesota offering a major in Scandinavian Studies.The Scandinavian Studies Program offers students an opportunity to combine Norwegian or Swedish languages with study of the greater Nordic cultural region. It provides students with a familiarity of Scandinavian heritage and history. And it prepares students to live and work in any of the Scandinavian countries—Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland.


Scandinavian Studies is an interdisciplinary program; a Bachelor of Arts is offered to students who choose to major; a minor in Scandinavian Studies is also available.

Study Abroad

The Department of World Languages & Cultures conducts or coordinates foreign language study tours to Mexico and Europe. Foreign language students are urged to acquire experience in the area in which their language is spoken.


Minnesota State University, Mankato is fortunate to have generous individuals who donate to scholarship funds. The purpose of the scholarships is to assist students in meeting the cost of attendance at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
