Scandinavian Studies B.A.

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) major in Scandinavian Studies requires 32 semester credits, including a core of language courses (usually at least two years), a 3 credit "capstone" experience, and approved electives from other disciplines. MSU students carrying 12 semester credits may take a course at Gustavus Adolphus College that is not offered at MSU while paying MSU tuition.

If you are interested in focusing on Scandinavian languages and literature, you may choose to major in Scandinavian Studies, but we also strongly encourage you to pursue a second major in another B.A. program or even two minors that will complement your interdisciplinary studies. One minor is required.

Scandanavian Studies BA

Completion of the Scandanavian Studies BA requires 120 credits, distributed as follows:

The Bachelor of Arts major in Scandinavian Studies requires 32 semester credits, including a core of language courses (usually at least two years), a 3-credit “capstone” experience, and approved electives. Students interested in focusing on Scandinavian languages and literature may choose to major in Scandinavian Studies, but they are strongly encouraged to pursue a second major in other BA program or two minors in other BA programs that will complement students’ interdisciplinary studies. One minor is required. Majors will work closely with the Scandinavian Studies advisor to develop a course of studies that offers exibility to suit students’ needs and interests.

You need to receive approval by the director of Scandinavian Studies before the beginning of the semester to ensure that you will be able to apply credit achieved in courses from affiliated programs (courses with a prefix other than “SCAN”) toward a major or minor in Scandinavian Studies.
