Karen Borchert is the Director of The Campus Kitchens Project (CKP), a national school-based non-profit organization, now in its fifth year of operations. Karen graduated in 2000 from Wake Forest University, where she majored in English and co-founded a service organization called Homerun, a student-run community meals program that provided much of the basis for the work that CKP does today. From this experience, Karen became interested in a leadership role in the non-profit field, which led her to DC Central Kitchen, where she went to work after graduation in 2000. Karen then worked on a team to develop the Campus Kitchen concept and moved to St. Louis in the fall of 2001 to pilot the program at Saint Louis University. Karen now directs the organization from its headquarters in Washington DC and is pursuing her MBA at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.
