Hello again, everyone! Winter is slowly coming to a close, which can only mean that GaYpril is upon us! This year, we decided to change our big spring event from Hate Hurts Week/Eliminate Hate Week (now called Hate Hurts Day, which was our February event featuring T.J. Leyden) to "GaYpril", a month-long series of events happening all throughout the month of April aimed at celebrating the LGBTQQA Community! Here's what we've got planned:

On Wednesday, April 9th, the LGBTC will be hosting another fantabulous drag show! The show starts at 8pm in the CSU Ballroom, but the doors will open at 7:30 pm. If you want good seats, you'll need to arrive early as the lines will form quickly.
On Thursday, April 17th, we will be taking a group to the Minnesota State Capitol for OutFront MN's annual justFair Lobby Day. This is a chance to meet with your representatives to discuss concerns for the LGBTQ community. Sign-ups are full, but you can still meet us there if you find your own transportation. Go to www.outfront.org to register and find more information!
As a project for the Intro to LGBT Studies course, a group of students will have on display a history of the LGBT rights movement from 11am-1pm, Monday-Thursday, in the Flexible Programming Space in the lower level CSU (by the pizza place).
On Tuesday, April 22nd, SAGE will be sponsoring a screening of Toilet Training, a documentary that discusses the importance of having gender neutral bathrooms available for those of varying gender presentations, as well as many other people. This will be followed by a panel discussion. The event will take place from 12:30-2pm in the Ostrander Auditorium.
IMPACT is sponsoring screenings of the film, Get Real, Wednesday-Saturday, April 23-26 in Ostrander Auditorium. Wed. and Thurs. showings are at 7pm and 9pm. Fri. and Sat. showings are at 8pm.
On Monday, April 28th, Chrissy Gephardt will be speaking in the CSU Ballroom at 7pm as our keynote speaker. Chrissy Gephardt is an active proponent of LGBTQ rights, having worked with the National Stonewall Democrats and serving on the board of directors for the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund. After coming out in 2004, while her father, Dick Gephardt, campaigned for the Democratic presidential nomination, she has spoken nationwide to inspire young voters to take an active role in the political process and lead the fight for LGBTQ rights.
The LGBTC will be observing the national Day of Silence on Wednesday, April 30th. Details are still being discussed, but events should include the traditional observance of silence followed by a breaking-of-the-silence, a speak-out, and ice cream. As plans are finalized, we'll keep you updated.
