BENCHS' Susan Kroon receives Quality Council Award - June 8, 2011.
Susan Kroon recently received Above & Beyond Award for her work with Blue Earth Nicollet County Humane Society (BENCHS). Susan was instrumental in facilitating the building of the much needed Riverside Regional Pet Shelter in Mankato, and her energy kept all of the volunteers moving forward on events designed to raise funds for both the building campaign and for operating funds. "This award recognizes Susan's superior effort and is a reflection that her volunteers appreciate the commitment she has to finding homes for abandoned animals," said MACQ President Matt Chmielewski.

Mocol Brothers Win Above & Beyond - September 21, 2012.
The concept of the "corner market" is alive and well on the north end of Mankato, hidden in a little gem of a store called "Mocol's Supermarket". The store opened its doors in 1917 and has been owned and operated by family members since that time. The current proprietors deserve recognition for the products and excellent customer service they provide to their customers. If you have visited the store a few times, you are greeted by name and can count on there being at least a brief conversation on how life in general is going for you. George Mocol is even known to keep a treat on hand for any dogs that might be waiting outside the door for their master. The kids are safe here, and the Mocols know most of them because they probably know the parents, or maybe they even went to school with their parents - probably at Franklin School which is right across the street! You can park at the door, and there is carry-out service if you need it. If you don't see what you want in the meat case, you may be able to have it cut while you wait, along with fresh deli meats and cheeses. They may not have everything, but they certainly have the basics. There are many of us who absolutely rely on being able to stop at Mocol's after work on those nights when we didn't plan dinner in advance or even on the weekend when you don't want to tangle with Cub or Hy-Vee. I know this because I am one of those people, and I see many of the same faces in the store when I stop. We are all smiling when we walk out of Mocol's Supermarket, and they deserve recognition for that, and for remaining a cornerstone for so long in this community.
MSU Event & Meeting Services Department's Shirley Piepho Honored - July 17, 2012.
 The Quality Council has presented an Above & Beyond Award to Shirley Piepho. The Quality Council Board agrees that a ball of energy exists at Minnesota State Mankato, and it is all wrapped up in one package. Shirley Piepho continues to amaze as she works with MSU departments and external groups to ensure that their workshops, conferences, weddings, and other events go off without a hitch. The Minnesota Vikings Summer Training Camp, Mankato Marathon, Thunder of Drums, Regional Science Fairs, International Festival, Campus and Community Fairs, among other community oriented events, owe much of their success to the planning and logistics that few actually see or understand. Shirley "gets it" and knows that "the devil is in the details" - the rooms must be clean, tables and chairs set up, food delivered on time, microphones and video projection working, and parking and signage needs addressed. MSU has great facilities, which can be used after classroom needs are dealt with, and it takes a fireball like Shirley to maximize their use.

Above and Beyond Award Winner
March 25th, 2010
On Friday, March 25, 2011, Quality Council President Matt Chmielewski presented Gail Sadaka with an Above & Beyond Award certificate. Gail was honored thanks to a MACQ Board approved statement which addressed her expertise as a server at Charley's Restaurant. "This award is an acknowledgment of the superior job Gail has been doing for years, and a reflection that her customers appreciate the special treatment and care she provides," said President Matt Chmielewski.
