On July 9, 1926, Martha Kroehler gave birth to Carol on the family farm located outside of Henderson, Minnesota. Carol’s siblings include Carmen, Lorraine, and George Jr. Martha and George Kroehler worked together to satisfy the daily demands of their farm. And as the children grew, they were also expected to contribute to chores and attend church weekly.
Carol attended the Sibley County District 13 country school from 1932 to 1939. School enrollment consisted of approximately eight to twelve students. In fact, the older children acted as teacher assistants. In fall 1939, Carol entered ninth grade at the Henderson High School, graduating in 1944. Subsequently, she obtained her teaching degree from the Mankato State Teacher’s College in 1946. (During the 1970s, she returned to Mankato State University to complete her B.S. degree.)
Wedding bells rang for Carol on September 24, 1955. She married Karl Mueller, a local farmer. She taught elementary school until her only child, Kenneth, was born in 1960. Carol assisted her husband with farrowing sows, outdoor chores, and household obligations until she returned to teaching in 1965. All in all, Carol taught elementary school for over forty-five years. After she retired, she continued to aid her husband and brother-in-law with animal chores, providing meals for farm employees, grounds keeping, and various responsibilities. Presently, Carol enjoys politics, church, cooking, playing cards, and spending time with friends and family. In September 2005, Carol and Karl Mueller celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
